…He was hailed a war hero for surviving 47 days in the shark-infested Pacific Ocean after his bomber was shot down — and two more years in a brutal Japanese prison camp.

And he was the inspiration for a movie directed by Angelia Jolie called “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption,” which is due out on Christmas Day.

Louis Zamperini’s remarkable 97-year run came to a quiet end Wednesday when he died of pneumonia at his Los Angeles home.

‘After a 40-day long battle for his life, he peacefully passed away in the presence of his entire family, leaving behind a legacy that has touched so many lives,” Zamperini’s family said in a statement….
